While Arizona’s leaders play “ostrich” their state dries and burns...

THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC IN FEBRUARY 2008

While Arizona’s leaders play “ostrich” their state dries and burns...

But, fear not as those same leaders we elected “to serve and to protect” us solemnly swear that your water is “safe.” This is a politically charged year – 2008 – wherein what will pass for truth is problematic at best and subject to extreme exaggeration. When was the last time you heard any state leader acknowledge that Arizona as well as the West remains under the influence of a continuing “drought”…? Frankly, that word is not in their current lexicon as it might infer their support of the economic mantra of unrestricted growth is unsustainable.

In the movie … The American President … Michael Douglas’s character President Andrew Shepherd notes … “We've got serious problems, and we need serious people … If you want to talk about character …. Just tell me where and when, and I'll show up. This is a time for serious people” … Where are those serious leaders in these times in Arizona when we face serious problems..?

Posturing, pontificating, 30 second sound bites, feel-good statements don’t cut it and do not provide the leadership necessary to achieve resolution to the myriad of issues surrounding water in all of its forms in Arizona.

It is incumbent upon “us” – that’s you and me – to only elect those who honestly want to achieve mutually acceptable resolution to these and related issues facing Arizona today and into the future. Your state’s destiny as well as your own is solely within your control.

Exercise it wisely…!
