AZ-AM follows guidelines to rid water of drugs…March 21, 2008 - 10:40AM…Erin Turner…Daily News-Sun…A recent study found that tens of millions of Americans drink water contaminated with prescription medications, but local officials maintain water in Sun City and Sun City West is free of many of those drugs. Benjamin H. Grumbles, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's assistant administrator for water, told the AP the agency recognizes that this contamination in water supplies is a growing concern and that government has some catching up to do: "Our position is there needs to be more searching, more analysis." Todd Walker, community relations manager for Arizona American Water Co., (a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water Works one of the largest – for-profit-corporate-water-purveyors-in-the-world) which serves a large portion of the Northwest Valley, including Sun City, Sun City West and portions of Surprise, said his company follows all guidelines set forth by the EPA, Though the EPA hasn't set standards for controlling drug compounds in water, Arizona American takes measures to rid its water of pharmaceuticals, he said. "We take quality and safety very seriously. The EPA sets water quality standards, and Arizona American treats and delivers water that meets or surpasses all EPA drinking water standards," he said. "Currently, the EPA doesn't require water utilities to monitor for pharmaceuticals in water, nor have they set treatment standards for pharmaceuticals in water. However, Arizona American's water treatment process is effective for the removal of many of these compounds. "Arizona American has purchased equipment capable of testing for pharmaceutical compounds and will begin developing sampling protocols once the EPA approves an acceptable testing method," Walker said.
Sure I believe Arizona American Water Company, they would not knowingly mislead anyone, would they …?
Yea, right, Arizona American Water was the company which was so diligent about notifying their clients in Paradise Valley they were delivering contaminated water to them recently, weren’t they…? Oh, that’s right they had a mechanical problem – twice – which prevented notification, but you can trust us…we’re really testing for pharmaceuticals in the water we deliver to you…?
You have no idea how re-assuring I find that assurance from Arizona American Water corporate officials. Excuse me while I vomit.
"There's a sucker born every minute" is a phrase often credited to P.T. Barnum (1810 – 1891), an American showman. It is generally taken to mean that there are (and always will be) a lot of gullible people in the world.
Are you one of them . . . ?
