Hey but boiling renders it safe...?

Kingman City issues tap water warning …Nicholas Wilbur…Miner Staff Writer
The city is warning residents against drinking tap water after a Phoenix lab found nearly double the normal amount of nitrates in a Feb. 1 sample. It is advised that pregnant women and infants younger than six months old not drink the water or any juice or formula mixtures containing tap water.A water well downtown showed nitrate levels of 18.2 milligrams per liter -nearly double the maximum contaminant level of 10 milligrams per liter. The warning is a necessary precaution of any such reading, but Sedich (City Kingman) doesn't want to scare the community about the safety of Kingman's water."It's like aspirin; if you read the warning label on anything it scares you to death, but that's required verbiage that goes in there," he said.He added, "I drink this water, my family drinks this water, but we're doing everything we can."What are nitrates? According to the U.S. government Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nitrate is a compound formed naturally when nitrogen combines with oxygen or ozone. It is essential for all living things, but high levels of nitrate or nitrogen in drinking water can be dangerous, especially for infants and pregnant women, according to www.cdc.gov. Infants drinking water with high level of nitrates "could become seriously ill and, if untreated, may die" from water containing excessive nitrates, according to a news release from the Public Works Department. "Symptoms include shortness of breath and blue baby syndrome.
Also, boiling or freezing tap water does not reduce the risk of excessive nitrate levels. "Adults and children older than six months can drink the tap water (nitrate is a concern for infants because they can't process nitrates in the same way adults can).

But, government brochures say boiling renders the water – safe – think again … !

But Kingman water officials don’t want to scare the community about the safety of Kingman’s water. But they really don’t want to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Health department and water purveyor attitude is … “It's like aspirin; if you read the warning label on anything it scares you to death, but that's required verbiage that goes in there"… I don’t know about you, but I feel safer already.

This is precisely the attitude of Gov. Napolitano and the heads of her departments of Water Resources and Dept of Environmental Quality. We’re doing everything we can. The question is … for whose benefit….?

Hey, it’s their water so why should I care…?
