Maricopa County Receives 'F' for Air Quality
May 1st, 2007 @ 3:45pm by Bob McClay/KTAR
Maricopa County was given an 'F' by the American Lung Association for ozone pollution, the 15th straight year the county has received a failing grade.
Holly Ward, with the Maricopa County Air Quality Department, said local officials have been warned before that the county's air is bad. "EPA came in and told us at the end of last year, that we were not cutting it as far as meeting the standard for particulate pollution," she said.
Several county agencies are working on a three-year plan. "Maricopa County, Maricopa Association of Government, ADEQ, along with cities and towns, are working to find a way to reduce dust emissions by five percent each year until we reach attainment," Ward said.
Federal highway dollars could be taken away from the county if the goal isn't reached.

This is surprising or unexpected . . . ?

Let’s see, the officials “we” – that’s you and me – elect continue politicians from our Governor to all of our State Representatives to allow unabated construction of homes promoting urban sprawl in its ugliest form, rampant pollution of our ground water, and increased taxes to foster more freeways for our gas guzzling SUV, Hummers, promoting increased traffic with single occupants.

And “we” expect not to receive an “F” for our air quality . . . ? Exactly what are you smoking . . . ?

Resolving our air pollution problem will require “sacrifice” and until “we” are willing to face that reality “we” will accept the “feel-good” half-baked ideas promoted by university and government think tanks sponsored by “corporate” America.

There are solutions, “we” just don’t want to hear them or acknowledge their validity.
