FOR ALL THINGS THERE IS A SEASON
COMMENTARY . . .
A mind far wiser than mine once wrote …. “for all things there is a season” …. An invitation is extended to embrace hope looking to a future wherein truth is the thing of the season. Amid the chaos surrounding the path deliberately chosen by our elected leaders – City – State – Federal - and the bureaucrats they chose to lead our public agencies the current thing of the season remains continued deception on all fronts.
That the consequences of our choice to exercise and unleash without honest provocation the might of our Military Industrial Complex on a sovereign nation has come home to roost. We find our county isolated and cut off from the benefit of the good will of the peoples of the world. We are out on that proverbial limb by ourselves as a result of our choices.
The exercise of personal responsibility ceased long ago the result of the proliferation of a collective choice to enjoy the good life described and defined for us by our government in concert with “corporate” profiteers of all colors, stripes and description. Encouraged were we, to embrace all the colorful, beautiful, easy payment attributes present by government and business leading to a life of leisure where others will take care of you. And take care of us, they have. We rushed to become like “them” without having a clue of who they are, what they believe, nor their ultimate goal. We just wanted to be like “them.”
To be like “them” the sense of community an outgrowth of the 60’s quickly gave way to the rise of the golden rule with a different twist. The mantra quickly became …. he who has the gold, rules …. and to reach that pinnacle it mattered not who you stepped, crushed, abused, thwarted, maimed or killed to obtain the aberration of gold depicted as rightfully yours.
The notions of right, wrong, good, bad, justice, abuse, capitulation and morality morphed into what mass media “spinmeisters” experts and profiteers defined as the phrase of the day. With our collective eye and ear attuned to achieving the “good life” robotically we chose to believe and conform to “their” goal. Those whose eye and ear saw and hear differently “they” had quickly and summarily marginalized, minimized, ostracized, made the butt of “their” jokes and if too loudly did they protest – vanquished.
That today we find the collective state of the health of our citizens degraded the result of our collective inaction to our - air – water – ecosystem – should come as no surprise. Collectively we chose to capitulate to “their” demands for higher profits, reduced or no oversight of their “corporate” action, enactment of “their” rules, regulations and laws protecting “them” from you and me.
Why do we seem so surprised that “they,” as a result of our collective choice to abdicate our personal responsibility, today exercise near monopolistic control over most all aspects of our lives’..? They own, control and define what is “safe” for the water we drink. They own, control and define what is “safe” for the air we breathe. They own, control and define that “genetically altered” foods are safe for us to consume. They own, control and define and we obediently accept they are entitled to exercise “greed” in remunerating themselves, while keeping you and me at near poverty levels of existence.
Nature shows us that change begins from the inside and manifests to the outside. Like a pebble tossed into a pond of water the ripples manifest from the inside to the outside. To change the dynamics in our geopolitical world requires that each of us assume personal responsibility for all aspects of our lives.
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." - Confucius – Our personal challenge is making the decision to take that first step, then placing one foot in front of the other and in concert with others our goal will be achieved.
“Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them” - Frederick Douglass
Clearly it’s your personal decision to make …
