ARE WE REALLY TIGHTENING THE TAP ON WASTE
On the cover of the premiere (Sept/Oct 2006) issue of -WATER EFFICIENCY - magazine appears this picture along with the caption … “tightening the tap on waste” …
The editor – John Trotti – notes in his editorial … “without public awareness and dedicated support, no program, no amount of wisdom or intelligence can be the architect of victory” …
Mr. Trotti’s comments should resonate with clarity for those of us comprising the Arizona On-Site Residential (decentralized) Community. The reality is unfortunately the total opposite. Daily evidence is clearly demonstrated by specific “stakeholders” in our community that public awareness is not what they envision nor do they seek. Decisions made in the “dark” of night and behind closed doors have a way of resurfacing at the most inopportune moments. This is clearly demonstrated by the “public” outcry surrounding the currently pending APP for the project known as “Bella Terra” on the banks of Oak Creek in Sedona.
Clearly this project as it is currently envisioned does not have the dedicated support of the community of Sedona. Regrettably, the lead regulatory agency – ADEQ – appears to have made a choice not to pursue a course of full disclosure and public awareness.
For the current ADEQ rules to achieve dedicated support, the architects of the rule must be a fully aware and fully informed public. The current ADEQ rules are empty and hallow without public awareness or dedicated support and lack honest endorsement by any stakeholder segment comprising this community.
It is time to change this experience..! It is time to own we made serious errors and misjudgments and initiate endeavors to correct these mistakes creating the architecture for long term community based approach to preserving the integrity of all forms of Arizona’s waters.
The only thing stopping us is FEAR and fear is noting more than False Evidence Appears Real.
